Rhythm Interactive Drum Show (Ice Breaker)

On Tuesday 15 August the Rhythm Interactive Icebreaker drum show came to Matamata Primary School. We played the Dunduns which are a type of African drum. We had to look at the man and listen to the beats. We had to copy the actions that the man did on the drum.

Our favourite part was when we got to dance around. We also liked the part when we did the warm up and had to keep the rhythm with our own drums.

At the end of last term we had fun writing our own word problems for maths. See if you can solve some of the ones in the 'comments' section :-)

We've been busy this term!

We have been 'identiying ourselves' this term as our Inquiry topic. We have explored and discovered things about our familes and what is important to us.
We learnt how to say a mihi or introduction in Maori.
We wrote shape or acrostic poems about ourselves.
We designed flags that have on them all the things that are special to us.

MPS bad taste day

The school leaders organised the bad taste day to fundraise for the junior school. They are hoping the money raised will go towards outdoor furniture - they may even make it themselves!

Skip counting in 2's , 5's and 10's

More fun maths!

Learning our doubles!

Use these fun videos to help learn your doubles.

Dont forget about Near Doubles too.
For example if 7 + 7 = 14 then
7 + 8 = 15 because 8 is 1 more than 7.

Doubles: 1 to 5

Doubles: 6 to 10

Kowhaiwhai Patterns

As part of the 'explore and discovery' stage for our term 2 inquiry unit 'Identify Yourself' we have been talking about our family trees. We decided to draw our families in the form of kowhaiwhai patterns, which Whaea Lena helped us with. We talked about representing our family members using warm and cold dye colours.
Come in to Room 6 and see more of this art work on our colourful topic display wall.
